changing the world
What change is needed in the world that only you can make?
It’s interesting, really, that one man can make such a big difference on his environment. I mean, when you really think about the impact he has made on his environment in the short and long run it is astonishing. Whole governments, countries and nations cant come together and make decisions to better their environment, yet one man can make such a huge difference on his own.
When I think about the difference I could make in my own community I can't even imagine making the kind of difference Payeng made. But if you step back and fully look at the situation, Payeng probably never imagined he could make the kind of difference he made either. It shows that one small act can turn into something much larger and more meaningful than it was ever intended to be. I believe this is why many efforts made by countries or governments are never as successful as planed. Because when they made the plan for change they made it too specific and had a preplanned way of achieving this goal, which leaves no room for the change to grown and change and become what its true potential is, there was too much restriction on it for it to actually succeed.
What Payeng did shows that maybe government and nations trying to make decisions about what is best for the environment is not the way we should go about solving the environmental problems we are facing in today’s world. I don’t believe anyone can just decide what he or she is going to do to change the world. Changing the world isn’t something someone decides to do, its something that happens as a result of something else, and that something else maybe be a tiny, seemingly meaningless moment that grows into something much bigger.
