global warming does not always mean warmer temperatures

A lot of people don’t really understand global warming; global warming does not always entail warmer temperatures. If fact, it can mean more snow. This is an effect we can see in the northeast region of the United States. There were record amounts of snowfall in this region the past winter and global warming could have had an effect on that. You hear people all the time using harsh winters as a reason for refuting global warming. And although it does sound sensible, it’s really not; global warming presents itself in different ways. Big storms like what happened this winter in the northeast get their power from freezing arctic air and the warm waters of oceans. When ocean waters are warmer than normal, like they are now with global warming, it can mean that these storms become even more powerful. The sad thing is that many people do not understand this and they think that more snow and harsher cold temperatures indicate that global warming and climate change are not real. But in reality this shows that global warming is getting worse and that something needs to be done. I have talked before about people not believing global warming is real and I believe that stuff like this adds to this problem, because many people do not truly understand global warming and all the problems it can cause. If people can convince themselves that the signs of global warming they see are in fact not really signs of global warming happening, but the opposite, that global warming is not happening it is easy for them to turn a blind eye and not do anything to fix the problem. Global warming has even been shown to be related to droughts, global warming effects the movement of water into the atmosphere, which has been shown to cause a rise in droughts. If you go to Google and search “global warming causing…” and then enter any letter it will bring up results for what global warming causes starting with that letter. When you use “f” you find articles about global warming causing floods, freezing temperatures and forest fires. When you use “d” you find articles about global warming causing droughts and disease. The list goes on and on. There are lots of side effects of global warming that you would never expect. People need to realize that global warming presents itself in a myriad of ways and not all of them are exactly what you think they are going to be, sometimes it is the exact opposite of what you thought it would be.
