climate change being a hoax

Why do people want to believe climate change is a hoax? There doesn’t seem to be much evidence that it is a hoax, yet people everywhere are talking about it being fake and not real, the question is why? Why do people refuse to believe the truth, which has scientific facts and data that back up the conclusions. I think that people do this because they don’t want to admit to themselves that they are causing the environmental problems that are going on in our society today. They seem to think that if they just ignore the problem then they don’t have to deal with it. If they believe that it is a hoax then they can focus all their energy on trying to convince other people that it is all fake rather than having to focus all their energy actually fixing the problem. It’s not fun to think about the fact that humans are causing global warming, but let’s face it, we are. We are causing global warming, which means we are the ones who have to fix. This is where all my blog posts start to tie together, we see our bad habits coming into play, we see our fear of change and fixing problems, all these problems tie together. All these problems are what drive people to believe stuff like this is a hoax. People have bad habits, that they refuse to fix because they don’t believe they make a difference on the climate problems, and at the same time they are afraid of change, so nothing at all gets done. And when nothing gets done we have problems like global warming, ocean acidification, pollution, and plenty of other things, and we still have people that don’t believe any of these problems are actually real. They don’t want to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their part in harming the earth like this. The next question is how do we show them that global warming and all these other issues are actually a real threat? Stories, stories are how we are going to do this. Recently in class we discussed how stories played a part in influencing society, the discussion we had was something new for me, I had never thought about how stories affected people. If these people don’t want to listen to the scientific facts, maybe they will listen to the stories from the people who are already beginning to be directly affected by environmental problems. Then people all over the world could hear first-hand how environmental problems are affecting people and not just have to rely on scientific data that is hard to understand and make sense of.
